One Christmas Gift Down….

Woo hoo! I love finishing things! I didn’t get that much else done today, but I did finish my very first adult sized sweater. It’s a little late for action shots, but I’ll try to get one tomorrow. For now, here she is….

Blue Handknit Cardigan

I used this easy pattern from cosmicpluto, 8 balls of Knitpicks Wool of the Andes in Winter Night, and US8 Addi Turbos. And beautiful wooden buttons from my favorite LYS.

I finished the body of this sweater over the course of 3 days in September, but then I let it sit for a couple of weeks. Then, I almost finished the sleeves, and let it sit for another week or so. And finally, today, I went and bought more buttons (I had planned last year to knit a 5-button cardigan, but I ended up wanting 9 buttons; there were three more at the LYS, so I bought them and didn’t put one at the top), and then I finished the sleeves (at last!), sewed in all of the ends, attached the buttons, and ironed the cardigan.

And let me tell you, the ironing made a huge difference. It smoothed out my stitches, stopped the seed stitch border at the bottom edge from flipping up, and made the fabric drape in the most lovely way. From now on, I’m definitely ironing all of my handknits (except lace).

The pattern was super easy, and the waist-shaping looks great. Of course, it’s not a surprise Christmas present, because it’s hard to keep a cardigan you’re knitting from your roommate a secret when you work on it at home and continually ask questions about color preferences, button preferences, and pattern preferences, and then make the giftee try it on about 800 times. And I’ll give it to Heather early, because it’s getting chilly, and because handknits must be used immediately if possible.

In other news, the temp job got a lot easier after Monday, and was really interesting. And I got paid, which is great, and I got asked to come back next week, at least Monday and Tuesday, and probably Wednesday and Thursday, which is even better. This is at one of the places I’m applying for a job, and they asked if, having worked there for a week, I was still interested in the opening. I said of course, so we’ll see how that goes. I don’t know when interviews for the permanent position will be, but I’m going to ask this week.
